Comedian Anne Meara Passes Away At Age 85
Anne Mera, a loopy lovable comedian who gained worldwide recognition for starting up her stand career with Jerry Stiller, her husband back in the 1950’s, has died. She was 85 years old.
The sad news was first reported by her husband, Jerry Stiller, as well as Ben Stiller on Saturday and they provided no other details regarding her death.
In a statement released by the two to the Associated Press on Sunday described Meara husband Jerry as her “husband and partner for life.”
“The two were married for 61 years and worked together almost as long,” the statement stated.
The two, Meara and her husband, made several comedy routine appearances together back in their early days and they used to joke about married life as well as their ethnic backgrounds. The two appeared a record 36 times on “The Ed Sullivan Show” and they also formed a formidable force in Vegas as a pair. Although their marriage lasted for a long period of time their career as a couple did not work out that much and ended up splitting back in 1970’s.
During her career, Meara got nominated twice for the Emmy Awards for her role in “Archie Bunker’s Place”. She also won a WritersGuild Awards for her work in the TV movie “The Other Woman” which she helped to write. She has featured a number of TV shows as well as films including “All My Children” as well as “Rhoda,” “'Alf” and lastly “The King of Queens.”
